How to Welcome Life’s Next Adventure with Energy, Excitement, and Joy

Are you anticipating your 2nd half of life with distress and uncertainty?

Is it affecting your peace of mind?

Growing older is not what is used to be. Look at Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, the Dalai Lama, Bill Moyers, and countless others, who are active, vibrant and engaged in what is meaningful to them. The 2nd half of life doesn’t have to be a downhill slide. It can include discovery, adventure, challenge, experimentation with new, old, or never pursued interests, people, or social causes.

But, you might be overwhelmed with all the options. Or maybe you haven’t a clue about what to do after letting go of work and family-building. Or how to be single in a coupled

world. Or you might be out of synch with your life partner.Growing older is not what is used to be. Look at Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, the Dalai Lama, Bill Moyers, and countless others, who are active, vibrant and engaged in

Do any of the following stories resonate for you?

Peg and Alan are age 60 and 63. Peg’s an account executive. Alan has his own law firm. They’re both fit and healthy. Their jobs have consumed them for years to the point where they are never unplugged. They’ve dreamed of sailing and hiking when they retire. As they hit sixty, though, their ideas about when they’d retire and what they’d do next have begun to diverge. Now they argue about this decision, so long desired and dreamed about.

Deborah was married briefly in her 20’s and subsequently built a satisfying career as a human resources executive in a large corporation. She earned a good income,

bought all the things she wanted, had lots of associates, and felt she had a good life. Now she’s itching to downsize, leave her high-pressure job, and chill. But, she has no idea what she wants to do with her life now. And whom to do it with.

Michael has been the consummate caregiver of family, employees, and the community. He devoted himself to others, often working 60 hours per week and then coming home to take over the care of his large family of 5 children. This is how he was brought up, to always put others’ needs ahead of his own. He just entered the Boomer years and asks himself, “What about me?”

Achieve Peak Fulfillment

Partner with an Experienced, Compassionate Life Coach

You might have questions, like…What can you, as a life coach, do for me?  Can’t I have the same conversations with a good friend?

As a professional life coach, I listen intently to who you really are and what you want to do. I take your side, not the side of “you should” or your fears or how it’s always been in your family or our culture. I don’t have an agenda, as many friends and relatives do. I am there completely for YOU.

As a coach, I know that you carry the wisdom to be the person you want to be… but that your experience has placed barriers around you, keeping you less fulfilled than you can be.

As a coach, I offer you accountability and support to take those first steps toward your goals.

“Unlike a friend or relative, Karma was not a stakeholder, so she helped me to see my pattern of not wanting to say “no.” Karma gave me the assignment to say “no” to 10 requests and then get back to her to review what happened. Since our coaching, I continue to be direct about saying “no” to something that is not my responsibility and it hasn’t caused anyone to get angry or not like me. I’m more confident and less irritable. Karma is a great listener but also an active participant in finding solutions. "

Now I know you are even more curious to find out
whether you’re ready to be coached.

How do I know I can trust you to provide me with a high level of professional service, you wonder?

That’s an important question. One you want to think about because you value yourself and want to invest wisely in your future.

I want to give you every opportunity to get to know me. So, here’s some information about me…

  • I have been a licensed PhD level psychotherapist for 30 years. I’ve had a full-time private practice in the Boston area.
  • I added a life coaching practice after studying and being certified through the Institute for Life Coach Training, a program that specialized in training mental health professionals who already had the listening and communications skills necessary to become a life coach.
  • I’ve published 2 books, Women Who Could … and DidLives of Exemplary Artists and Scientists,an inspirational book based on interviews of high-achieving women, and Women Riders Who Could … and DidLife Stories of High Achieving Equestriennes.
  • I’ve written a blog, called Retirement As You Want It, which offers Boomers and Beyond articles, reviews of books and people, about all things pertinent to this age group.
  • I’ve hosted a TV show, “Alivelihood: New Adventures As We Age,” where I interviewed 100+ people over age 50 about their inspirational life stories.

Here’s an example of how coaching can work:

You might wonder how coaching has helped Peg and Alan, the couple I mentioned earlier who were in trouble about planning their retirement together.

I asked them to go back in time and create a life history. From that we found many small experiences where they were in Flow, in the Zone… Where they were so involved, that time passed effortlessly.

They created a life plan for the coming years that included the attributes of these Flow experiences. They both wanted to do something that excited and challenged them. They wanted to sail and hike, but couldn’t imagine giving up everything to do that. They also wanted to give back some of what they had each received from generous people when they were youngsters from low-income backgrounds.

They decided to use their legal and business skills to create a non-profit organization to help inner-city children to learn to sail. This project helped to solidify their connection again and provided them a clear goal and sense of giving back to the community.

"Retired early from a demanding job in a Beverly Hills hotel doing catering sales, I was having difficulty adjusting to not having the pressures of deadlines. Karma worked with me to live in the now, to appreciate the small things, to fulfill myself without depending on others to do that for me. She directed my attention to what drains my energy and what I can do to energize myself. She helped me let go of some of my "shoulds." With her encouragement and support, I've been able to see new possibilities in my life."
